Welcome to Ethiopian National Association of the Blind
The Ethiopian National Association of the Blind (ENAB) was established in 1960 with its major objective to advance the respect of the universal human rights, equal opportunities and full participation of blind Ethiopians.
ENAB is the first association of persons with disability in Ethiopia; it has more than 17,000 active members and 31 branch offices in 6 regions and 1 administrative city. In its sixty three years of operation, it has been performing various activities, among which education is the one that the association is highly engaged in.
ENAB participated on FENAID’s annual event on community awareness-raising which took place this year at the National Theatre on July 15. It featured a variety of handicrafts made by people with intellectual disabilities as well as entertainment performances performed by people with intellectual disabilities.
In January 2023, ENAB signed agreement with African Union of the Blind (AFUB) and launch a project entitled “AFUB Human Right Project” which is funded by Swedish Association of the Visually Impaired (SRF). The overall purpose of the project is increase the capacity of ENAB to promote human rights and equal opportunities of persons with visual impairment using the CRPD, agenda 2023 and other relevant human right instruments as advocacy tools.
As per the project planned activities, ENAB in collaboration with AFUB human right project, conducted 3 days training on project cycle management for 23 staff and board members. The training was conducted at Soramba Hotel from July 03 to July 05.
Together for Inclusion – TOFI project, Workshop on National Economic Empowerment Advocacy network establishment and Inclusive Economic Empowerment was held from November 24 – 25, 2022 at Yeba Hotel Adama.
IEE National Advocacy Network is formally established with 37 members drawn from GoE (21 members), TOFI EE partners (5), INGOs(4), OPDs(4), local NGOs( 2), private organizations ( 3) and CBOs (One) at national level. ENAB, in collaboration with TOFI EE partners has taken the initiative to bring key partners to work together in a network form and has accomplished various facilitative and leadership roles at various levels.
The Inclusive education Thematic area of ENAB conducted the first in-service teachers (INSET) training for the project School found in SNNPR.
As per the TOT training which was conducted in August by Enabling education Network (EENET) trainers, coming from abroad, the first round Inclusive learning Approach (ILA) Module one training was conducted in SNNPR , for Ottona primary School teachers from September 30-October 2/2022 at Woliata soddo town by those principal trainers who were took the ToT training.
About 85 University Graduates with Disability Trained on Pre-Jobs Skill and Job Hunt
An integrated Training at Adama, Sodo and Hawassa in Collaboration with Ethiojobs.
ENAB in collaboration with Ethiojobs, has organized a series of trainings on Pre job skill and job search at Adama, Hawassa and Sodo for persons with various disability. The training was conducted for the third round and about 97 graduates with disability were trained who are currently unemployed and graduated over the last 3 years from July 18 – 26, 2022. Specifically, about 45 Blinds, 12 deaf and 28 physically impaired persons are reached in the subsequent trainings.
ENAB in collaboration with Ethiojobs, has organized a pre job skill development and job search training in two rounds at Addis Ababa for persons with various disability.
